The Challenge
I designed a complete poster series for the Welch Visiting Artist and Scholar Lecture Series 2025–2026. For each speaker, I built a distinct color palette derived from their work, capturing the tone of their practice while maintaining a cohesive system across the entire series.
The primary challenge was aligning the design with each artist’s different preferences and usage boundaries. Some artists preferred not to include personal portraits and required the poster to feature only their artwork. Others requested that the artwork remain intact, avoiding heavy cropping, overlays, or visual obstructions. In several cases, artists did not want their imagery to be reinterpreted through secondary illustration or derived graphic elements. To address these constraints, I developed a consistent layout framework balancing image scale, whitespace, and informational hierarchy so each poster could respect the artist’s requirements while still reading as part of a unified series.
The final deliverables include one overview poster and individual posters for each artist, exported in both print-ready and Instagram formats. The series can be viewed on the GSU Art & Design Instagram account.
